Are You Game?
by Lindsey Asay – Eugene On The Cheap

Someone once said, you don’t have to be a beer drinker to play darts, but it helps.  Apparently this isn’t a well-kept secret, as local trivia and game nights have sprung up in bars and restaurants all over Eugene. The newest trend in gaming, isn’t hands free and you don’t need to spend $60. All you need is a beer and a competitive edge.

Not sure what goes well with your knowledge of random movie lines and unknown facts about past presidents…..stick with a burger and a brew.  This pairing seems to go well with any IQ.  Cornucopia Bar & Burgers offers Monday Trivia Night at 9:30pm with Keith Appleby (admission is FREE). In addition to a Grand prize, $25 second place prize and other prizes, any burger, fries and a pint of microbrew is only $9.99.  This is a great deal, especially since they offer one of the best burgers in town!

Rogue Nation BeerAre you are a member of the Rogue Nation (I am)?  Then you’ve probably been to Eugene City Brewery.  Not a member?  You should be.  As a member you can get great discounts on food and beer at this and other Rogue Nation locations.  Go on a Friday and use your newly acquired discount to enjoy a Kobe beef burger while playing Mr. Bills Traveling Trivia.  Mr. Bills Traveling Trivia comes to Eugene City Brewery from 8-11pm every Friday. Play to win some Rogue Nation Prizes.

If you want to skip the burger and go straight for the popcorn and beer, then check out the New Max’s Tavern. In business since 1932, this Eugene landmark is now offering their own trivia night every Tuesday starting at 8pm. Known for the challenging questions, this trivia night requires you to really flex your grey matter. Just don’t get caught using your smartphone to look up the answer, if they see it they will dock you points. This trivia night is adults only.

If that trivial pursuit game gone wrong as a kid still haunts you, then maybe a round of Bingo or a board game is more your speed.  Eugene City Brewery also offers family and adult Bingo every Wednesday.  Hour-long rounds start at 8pm and admission is FREE!  Sam Bonds Garage hosts a Bingo Night starting at 9pm every Monday. Arrive early to get a good beer and a good seat, on this popular game night.  Tom Heinl and Scott K host this FREE evening of Bingo.

Eugene’s newest edition to the dance club/bar scene, Cowfish offers their own take on a game night.  Every Monday night, you can pass the time with some chess, scrabble, jenga, twister, connect 4, or ping-pong. While you are getting your jenga on, you can enjoy their weekday specials such as $2 well drinks from 5 to 8pm and $1 Pabst from 8 to 11pm.

If you prefer a cupcake with your top-hat and thimble, then look no further.  The Divine Cupcake is host to two local game nights.  Bring your own game every Friday or use a house game and play from 7-11pm or enjoy a free Trivia Night every Tuesday starting at 7:05pm.

So put down the Cheetos,  step away from the Dungeons and Dragons and try something new!
