Night on the Town – Thursday
Yes, the on again off again bible of what’s happening in Eugene is on for tonight. Rainy, cold, it’s almost June and we’re wearing sweaters; normally the formula for a night at the Barrage (one day we’ll tell you about that), but not tonight, tonight there’s a reason to go out – its the start of a 5 day weekend. That’s right, a veritable mardi-gras of free evenings and late sleeping. Ok, no sleeping late tomorrow, but when you could need a bloody mary for breakfast by Saturday (instead of Monday), there’s just no staying in.
First off go immediately to EOTC (Eugene on the Cheap for you neophytes) and check for the happy hour you will attend pre-show. Now you’ve got a choice to make. Here are the best options tonight:
Oh Baby: Grrrlz Rock Showcase – The Granary, 7pm – n/c (all ages). FiveByFive is the standout, and FiveByFive is doing a CD release, love that tradition…well, when you can’t get songs released as they are ready anyways. Edgy pop with a girl diary meets tattoos and piercings vibe. The showcase also features Dubious, Lani Ament, Abbey Fletcher, Eden & Riley, and Bajuana Tea. Our bet is not all those groups are being showcased; there’s a mixup somewhere..but FiveByFive is playing and thats interesting enough to make this a pick. — yes those 5by5 links are all different videos and yes, these are youngsters. –ed
Kick It: The Evangenitals – Luckey’s, 9pm – $3. When asked about their sound: We like to think of our sound as an alt-country, Americana, freak folk, hillbilly jazz, cow punk, southern rock smorgasbord hell bent on bringing more love, light, and laughter into this world of ours. Okey dokey. Honestly it was the name that originally stuck – like The Athiarchists sticks, but after catching some of the videos up on the ‘Tube, it was clear this is a traveling smile party; well hello! Take your friends and share the inspiration to dance, laugh, goof and generally enjoy yourself. Still humming the Work Song.
