Autzen Stadium Provides Captioning on Scoreboard

EUGENE, Ore. — The University of Oregon has begun to provide captioning on the scoreboard at Autzen Stadium.

Now fans can read the in-stadium announcements and program voiceovers as they’re being heard from the loudspeakers.

The UO started using the service during this season’s first home football game last weekend.

UO Athletics staff agreed to provide captioning after the local chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America told them it was greatly needed for fans who have hearing loss.

“The addition of captioning at Autzen Stadium will provide a larger portion of the population with a full fan experience,” said Mike Duncan, senior associate athletic director for Facility Operations and Events.

Portland-based LNS Captioning provides the sevice by remotely listening to the announcements and typing them up.

The UO also provided captioning during graduation ceremonies in 2010 and 2011.

The school hopes to expand the service to Matthew Knight Arena, PK Park and Hayward Field.
