Wine Down Eugene
–Julia Crowley, EDN
April 25 – May 1
On Friday, a group of us met out at Domaine Meriwether for Sparkling Nights. Each of us brought a pot-luck style appetizer to share while we sipped excellent wine, listened to great live music, and enjoyed the outdoors and beautiful views at one of the picnic tables next to the vineyards.
We had such a great time on Friday, we returned on Sunday with fully stocked picnic baskets, lawn chairs, frisbees, and our entire families. It just so happened that, on Sunday, Domaine Meriwether released two excellent wines to their wine club members: the 2000 Prestige Cuvee Brut Sparkling Wine and the Cuvee Glace dessert wine. So, with the luck of April’s cloudless warmth, we took advantage of Domaine Meriwether’s gorgeous views and stellar wines while spent the entire day relaxing under the sun.
Although the weather is still warmer than average, the clouds have returned for now; however, I heard they are supposed to disperse once again come Friday, so I’m looking forward to heading out to wine country again. This time, I’m going to check out Pfeiffer Winery’s new Fondue Nights which take place on Friday and Saturday nights when the winery stays open until 9 pm. I’m a huge fan of fondue, and last week they offered both cheese and chocolate fondue with all the fixings. I’m thinking that sitting by their gorgeous water garden with a glass of the Blue Dot Reserve Pinot Noir in one hand and some fresh bread covered in melted cheese in the other is looking like a mighty fine plan for another sunny, warm weekend.
