Even Columbus himself would find it hard to complain about today’s weather. Our rain season for Western Oregon officially began October first and it looks like we have a chance of seeing some rain by the end of the week.

A high pressure ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) has moved to the east a bit, but still centered over Oregon, (see blue arrows curving from the northeast) and a thermal trough of low pressure (dashed line along the Oregon coast) our weather pattern will remain stable. We’ll have chilly nights followed by pleasant days with sunshine and average temperatures for today, Columbus Day, and beyond. It’s time to think back and remember the destruction caused by the “Great Columbus Day storm of 1962.” Today is the celebrated day for Columbus Day (now a Monday holiday), but the storm in 1962 actually occurred on October 12th the day historically designated as “Columbus Day.” For more on that storm click here.
