Wine Down Eugene
Happy Halloween! If you haven’t yet read my two recent posts on my favorite picks for Halloween wines, be sure to visit WineJulia.com and read Wickedly Wicked Wines for Halloween and Pair This: Halloween Wines and Horror Films for Two.It’s not just Halloween wines with spooky labels and haunting legends that can add to the fun of celebrating All Hallow’s Eve, but food and drinks with Fall and Halloween themes can be as equally delicious and entertaining. With seven adults and six kids heading to my house for some pre trick-or-treating fun tonight, I’ll have a spread of Halloween themed wine, beer, food and drinks waiting for my guests.
In addition to Owen Roe’s Sinister Hand, a blended red wine with a label that has a severed bloody hand, and Ghost Hill Cellars Prospector’s Reserve Pinot Noir, with an eerie legend behind the label, I’ll be offering some beer with an appropriate name: Witches Brew. Witches Brew is a Belgian Golden Ale with a label (and name) that boasts an ominous looking witch casting a spell over a mug of frothing beer. But it’s what’s under the champagne-style cork that really matters – aromas and flavors of bananas dominate a touch of clove, and the finish is hoppy and slightly bitter, with a tiny hint of sweetness.
With the beer, wine and the juice drinks for the kids, I’ll be making several Halloween and Fall themed munchies for everyone to enjoy before we head out for trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. Witch Hats, made out of Fudge Stripes, turned upside down, with a Hershey’s Kiss in the middle held on by orange frosting is always a hit. Another easy appetizer that everyone always loves is Pumpkin Whipped Dip. Simply blend a tub of Cool-Whip with a packet of vanilla pudding mix and a can of pumpkin puree. Add a few dashes of pumpkin pie spice and serve in a hollowed out pumpkin. Dip vanilla wafers, graham crackers and apple slices in this fluffy, delicious dip. For more Halloween and Fall ideas and recipes, visit both my Halloween and Fabulous Fall Pinterest boards that are dedicated to entertaining.
Have a safe and fun Halloween all!
