Wine Down Eugene

Wine Down Eugene December 12-18

It’s 12-12-12 today! That will never happen again, wow!

I have been very excited about a new and innovative wine appliance that not only chills, pours and displays wine, but also preserves an opened bottle of wine up to ten days: The skybar™ ONE Wine System.

After owning a wine bar for several years, where I offered a menu with twenty different wines by the glass, I was always on the hunt for wine preservation systems: sprays, pumps, special closures – I tried just about everything. After three or four days, most wines would start to lose their vibrant color, aroma and flavor. So, when I saw that the skybar™ ONE Wine System would preserve wine for up to ten days, I just had to test it for myself.

The skybar™ ONE Wine System arrived on my doorstep about two weeks ago. Within minutes of opening the box, I had my new swanky machine assembled and ready for a bottle of wine. I scrolled through the menu options, which are displayed by LED lighting on the front of the machine, and became familiar with some of the settings: VIEW SET TEMP., SET BY WINE TYPE, SET BY TEMP., and TURN LIGHT ON or OFF. Under the SET BY WINE TYPE, there are many different varietals to choose from, like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Each setting chills the wine to the optimal serving temperature.

Once I was familiar with the settings and menu options for the ONE wine system, I decided I would pop the cork on a bottle of 2008 Pfeiffer Blue Dot Reserve Pinot Noir and test out my new appliance. Within about fifteen minutes, the wine was chilled to 55 degrees and tasted incredible. But, I only allowed myself a very small portion – my plan was to taste a small amount of the Pinot every day for ten days to see how well the preservation system would work. I started a 10 Day Preservation Log on my award-winning website, WineJulia.com, and logged my tasting notes each day.

Having just a few sips each day of one of my favorite wines was not an easy task, but I did it, and the results are posted in the 10 Day Preservation Log. To find out how the Pinot Noir was on day 10, follow me over to WineJulia.com and read through the skybar™ 10 Day Preservation Log. Cheers!
