Oregon football releases 2013 schedule

Oregon football released its Fall 2013 schedule on Thursday, setting the stage for head coach Chip Kelly and the Ducks’ pursuit of a fifth straight BCS bowl appearance.

The team opens against FCS opponent Nicholls State in Autzen. If the name sounds familiar, it should. Oregon State’s game against the Colonels was postponed last year due to effects of Hurricane Isaac. The two teams made up their game in December when the Beavers cruised to a 77-3 victory in Corvallis.

Next on the list of non-conference opponents, Oregon will travel to Nevada to complete a home-and-home series with the Wolf Pack. The Ducks rolled 69-20 in the teams’ last meeting, just one week after Oregon started its year with a loss to LSU in 2011.

The schedule also gets a little SEC flavor when Tennessee comes to town on Sept. 14. It’s just the second-ever meeting between the two schools. Their first meeting in 2010 was a close one until this happened.

Curiously, Oregon has two open dates on its schedule — one bye week comes on Sept. 21, just before Pac-12 play starts, and the Ducks also have 12 days off between the UCLA Bruins on Oct. 26 and the Stanford Cardinal on Nov. 7.

The byes push Oregon’s season-ending Civil War matchup with Oregon State to the day after Thanksgiving, five days after last season ended.
