#37 – Michael Manns

in By The Numbers/Firehose/Headline Feed/Rotator/Sports by

Oregon defensive back Michael Manns, a redshirt freshman from Molalla High School (Molalla, Oregon), enters his second season in the Oregon program.

Before joining the Ducks, Manns was a two-year letter winner in football under head coach Kaleb Mitchell. Manns was invited to compete in the 2012 Shrine All-Star Game while earning 2011-12 Athlete of the Year at Molalla HS. The two-way star earned first-team all-league defensive back and honorable mention wide receiver. Manns also lettered in track and basketball.

In 2012, Manns spent his first season in Eugene as a member of the scout team while redshirting.

Manns competed in the 2013 Oregon Spring Game, finishing with four tackles (three unassisted, one assisted).

Going into the 2013 season, Manns will battle for reserve playing time in the crowded Oregon secondary. With four returning starters in Terrance Mitchell, Brian Jackson, Avery Patterson and Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, there won’t be much playing time available right away. In fact, there’s a good chance he won’t play at all in 2013. But that’s not a knock on him, just how deep the depth is at defensive back.

Manns’ best chance at seeing the field will be later in his Oregon career once the upperclassmen ahead of him graduate. 2014 or 2015 will be better opportunities to see the field.
