Portland Timbers captain Will Johnson has been named to the 2013 MLS All-Star Team by an online fan vote that determined ten of the team’s eleven starting players. Johnson leads the Timbers in scoring with six goals and three assists thus far.
Johnson, 26 years old and in his 11th season in the league, will be making his second MLS All-Star appearance. His first All-Star selection in 2009 was with Real Salt Lake. Johnson appeared in the team’s first 17 regular season games where the team went on a 15-game unbeaten streak – one of the longest in MLS history and the longest since the Timbers joined the league – but was off aiding the Canadian national team when the team lost to Columbus on Sunday.
Johnson is the second Timbers player to earn MLS-All Star honors. The other is midfielder Jack Jewsbury who represented the team in its inaugural MLS season in 2011.
