If you are staying in town this weekend and happen to be a foodie, be sure to check out The 5th Annual Bite of Eugene this Saturday at Alton Baker. The event features Iron Chef competitions, music, a Food as Medicine stage and cooking classes. Local chefs will offer “bites” of their creations and Lane county beer, wine, mead, cider and sodas will be on tap. Billed as “Lane county’s fastest growing culinary event” the Bite takes place from 11am to 10 pm, $5 for adults. http://www.biteofeugene.com/
If you’re up for an adventure, there are two music festivals within a few hours of town: The 12th Annual Northwest String Summit happens today (Thursday) through Sunday at Horning’s Hideout in North Plains. There are still weekend and day passes available on site. The festival showcases everything from bluegrass to newgrass, with favorites David Grisman, Yonder Mountain String Band, Leftover Salmon and Keller Williams. http://www.stringsummit.com/
If fighting crowds and peacocks isn’t your thing, head for the 2nd Annual Wildwood Music Fest and Campout in Willamena. Founder Katie Vinson describes it as “a big, very cool family reunion.” The festival features Oregon Americana acts such as Hillstomp, Sassparilla and Brown Bird. Tickets are still available for the Friday through Sunday campout. http://www.wildwoodmusicfest.com/
