Portland Timbers forward Darlington Nagbe has been named “The Best Young Player in the League” by Major League Soccer. Nagbe, 23-years-old, eared the No. 1 spot on the MLS “24 Under 24” rankings that evaluate the league’s up-and-coming talent.
Nagbe, up 14 spots from 15th place last season, is tied for the Timbers’ lead in goals with eight through the season. He also has three assists, which is tied for a team-high as well.
“(Nagbe) is a special player,” Timbers head coach Caleb Porter said.
Joining Nagbe on the 24U list is Timbers defender Andrew Jean-Baptiste at 16th.
