Eugene Community Garden Applications Due

Community GardensEUGENE, Ore. — Just a few days to go if you want to sign up for a plot in one of Eugene’s community gardens.

You have until Monday, March 17 to get your application in for one of the 72 spaces available.

As of Thursday, there were 30 people registered. The winners are chosen by lottery on Monday, March 24.

Coordinators say the program has been around since 1978 and there are a number of reasons to get involved.

“The main goals of the program are that it builds community and offers people the chance for people to grow food, flowers and things of that nature, and, you know, meet some of their gardening neighbors,” said Chris Girard, Community Gardens Manager.

The list of locations include: Alton Baker Park (east end of Alton Baker Parking Lot), Amazon (27th and High), Mathews (15th and Hayes), River House (301 N. Adams), Skinner City Farm (west end of Skinner Butte Park) and Whiteaker (end of N. Polk St.).
