City Hosts Parks Essay Contest for Kids

Maurie Jacobs ParkEUGENE, Ore. — The city of Eugene wants to hear from kids in Lane County about what they like about local parks.

The Parks and Open Space Department is holding an essay contest for 5 to 13-year-olds.

Mayor Kitty Piercy will read winning essays at a council meeting, and winners will get a 30-day pass to Amazon Pool.

The city wants to know which parks are their favorites, what they like to do there, and how it can get more kids outside.

“The intention is to just encourage kids and families to get outside and play and so, we wanted to support that initiative and have kids tell us what they love about Eugene’s parks,” said Carrie Peterson, Eugene Parks and Open Space park development coordinator.

Kids have until May 15 to enter. Click here for more information.
