Fast Food Workers Strike

strikeEUGENE, Ore. — Members of local labor unions joined a global fast food workers strike Thursday.

They rallied outside the McDonald’s on Broadway during the lunch hour, calling for higher wages and the right to unionize.

Fast food workers in Eugene make $9.10 an hour. For the past year and a half, they’ve been fighting to earn $15 an hour.

“Here in Eugene, we have lots of fast food. These workers are unable to pay their bills. They’re struggling, and they work really hard at these jobs, and we just want people to know that we stand in solidarity with them,” said Lauren Regan, Civil Liberties Defense Center.

The rally ended with a one-mile march to Wendy’s on Franklin Boulevard.
