In the first series they have won in the second half, the Eugene Emeralds found their offensive powerhouse in a 5-2 series clinching victory over Tri-City on Saturday night at PK Park. The Ems picked up the pieces early as Franchy Cordero hit a solo home run to give the Emeralds a 1-0 lead. Jose Urena quickly added another home run and it was 2-0.
Eugene Emeralds Starter Michael Kelly allowed one base runner in each of the first three innings of work. He made it into the fifth inning where he allowed the tying run to score. However like previous nights where the team would end up on the wrong end of the scoreboard the Eugene Emeralds flipped the script and the offense came to life to pick up a needed win giving them the series victory and putting them within a game of first place Salem-Keizer.
The Eugene Emeralds are 3-2 on the second half and still have a lot of work to do in their post season push. That includes a short three game series with the current division leaders starting tonight.
Eugene plays their next three games at Salem-Keizer and could find themselves in first place in the second half of the season with a series win. Sunday’s first pitch against the Volcanoes is set for 5:05pm PT. Monday and Tuesday’s start times are slated for 6:35pm.
