Eugene Emeralds Strike Early, Even Series With Salem-Keizer

The Eugene Emeralds were mired in a three game road losing streak and San Diego First Round Draft Pick Trea Turner decided enough was enough blasting a home run from his leadoff spot to start the game on Wednesday night at Salem-Keizer. After six innings it was 8-0 Eugene before the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes would attempt to mount a comeback attempt that came close.

Eugene Starting Pitcher Adrian De Horta had a rough start, but his teammates lifted him up, specifically Ems Catcher Jose Ruiz who threw out two runners along the bases. Marcus Davis added some power on Offense allowing three runs to score and extending the Eugene Emeralds lead in the third inning. The Volcanoes started the game being out hit ten to two, but would score six runs before the end the make it intersteing. If the game came down to hits over runs, the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes would have won outhitting the Ems 11-10 for the game.

There was added drama at the end as Salem-Keizer was able to get the tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth, but Eugene Closer Bryan Verbitsy was able to get the final out of the game. The final game of the three game series is Thursday at 6:35pm PT.

Both teams are staring down the barrel of fourth place in the division and a rubber game victory would keep them out of it for the moment. Following today’s game the Eugene Emeralds return to PK Park for a weekend series with the Boise Hawks.
