Eugene Emeralds Win in the 9th as Jalen Goree Strikes with a Walkoff

Eugene Emeralds Starter Walter Weickel made his debut as an Em on Wednesday night and had a rather interesting first inning. He gave up a run without giving up a hit. After walking the first batter he faced and a passed ball, Tri-City picked up a one run lead off a fly ball. However, their lead would not last for too long. The Eugene Ems would strike back to take a 2-1 lead in the third inning.

The Dust Devils Bullpen was stellar on the night with two pitchers, John Sheehan and Huascar Brazoban combining for three and two thirds innings of scoreless baseball and surrendering just two hits. The score would be 3-2 as both teams headed to the bottom of the ninth and the last chance for Eugene to even their second half record at 1-1. The Ems would not disappoint.

Jalen Goree provided the fireworks for the third time this season in walkoff fashion and the Eugene Emeralds evened the series with the Tri-City Dust Devils. It was Eugene’s fourth walkoff of the 2014 season and gave the team another chance to start a much needed winning streak to start the second half.

The five game series continues with game three on Friday, first pitch is set for 7:05pm Pacific time at PK Park.
