SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — The city of Springfield celebrated the official opening of a new archery range at Clearwater Park on Saturday. With 17 targets from 7 to 60 yards and 10 to 50 meters, the outdoor range is the only one of its kind in the area, as well as, just one of a few public outdoor ranges in the entire northwest.
But despite the fact that strong public interest is what made this range possible, Willamalane Park and Recreation staff say this is only a trial run.
Community Recreation Coordinator Zach Bessett says, “There’s a few different reasons why it’s a trial run. One is, is an archery range going to be used a lot? And it has proven over the past few weeks, that it has been used a lot. The other thing is, is this the right place for an archery range? How does it affect the park and the people that use the park?”
