The 2014 Regular season of college football kicks off thirty days from today on Saturday, August 30th for the Oregon Ducks. On Thursday a new revamped, at least by name, Coaches Poll for the Preseason was released. It was the USA Today Coaches Poll, now renamed in the era of the College Football Playoff complete with sponsorship. It is now the USA Today Amway Coaches Poll. The logistics remain the same, just the name has changed.

The newly named poll was released on Thursday morning and the Oregon Ducks will start the season ranked in the Top 5 at number four. The top team in the country was of no surprise with the Florida State Seminoles picking up the top spot and fifty six of sixty three first place votes. The Oregon Ducks did pick up one first place vote. Of course, in the end the top four teams will duke it out for a National title. The rest of the Pac-12 was well represented with five teams ranked in the poll.

UCLA, led by Quarterback Brett Hundley was slotted seventh to begin the 2014 campaign and will meet Oregon on their home turf this season. Washington(250,er 25), Arizona State(18) and USC(16) were also ranked in the preseason Coaches poll. However the Conference that received the most teams was again the SEC with seven teams ranked in the coaches poll, the Pac-12 was second with five teams listed. One ranking that surprised me was UCLA ahead of Stanford.

The Bruins bring more firepower into the season, but the Stanford Cardinal are ranked outside of the top ten at eleven and with a few wins should be able to crest the Top ten in time for the showdown with the Oregon Ducks at Autzen on November 2nd. Another team set to face Oregon this season in a Top Ten non-conference tilt is Michigan State that enters as the second highest ranked Big Ten team at number eight. The Ohio State Buckeyes are ranked higher at number five to begin the season.

For those that like Oregon State, they are not ranked in the poll, but did receive four ‘sympathy’ votes in the coaches poll which slates them as the forty sixth in the coaches poll. Arizona, who visits Autzen this fall is set at fifty first with one vote in the first poll of the season.

Fall camp for the Oregon Ducks starts on Monday and we will have coverage througout camp leading up to the first game of the season on Saturday August 30th. Gametime against the South Dakota Coyotes is set for 7:30pm Pacific Time. The game will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.
