If the Eugene Emeralds are trying to make a push to the playoffs, they are running out of time and losing won’t help their cause. It does not help when statistics are not on your side either and when the opposing team has an over .700 percentage when scoring first. Vancouver did it for the second straight time on Wednesday night and have won two games in a row over the Ems.
Eugene did out hit Vancouver eight to six, but in the end it was the bullpen that made the difference as Eugene faltered and Vancouver was able to give up just a hit in three and two thirds innings pitched. Vancouver Starter Matt Smoral went five and one third innings giving up one run on six hits along with scattering four walks for his second win on the season.
Game three of the five game series against Vancouver is set for Thursday at 7:05 as the Eugene Emeralds wrap up their final homestand of the regular season. There are just five games left in the regular season including a final road trip to Hillsboro starting on Saturday. The regular season concludes on Monday in the Northwest League for the Eugene Emeralds.
