The Eugene Emeralds are closing in on just ten games remaining in the second half of the season and winning games should be at a premium for a team looking to make the playoffs this season. The team did not help their cause over the weekend falling behind early on both Saturday and Sunday by giving up early home runs to the Hillsboro Hops in one of the final home stands of the season.
For Hillsboro on Sunday the second inning was led off by back to back home runs and a quick 2-0 Hops lead, but Eugene would strike in the bottom of the frame and get one run back. The Eugene Emeralds would miss multiple opportunities for the lead for the rest of the game with chances in the fourth and eighth innings with runners aboard and less than two outs, but were unable to capitalize. Eugene would lose their second game in a row and the third in a four game series to Hillsboro 9-7 after losing on Saturday night as well, 6-3. The Eugene Emeralds can tie the series tonight with a victory.
The Eugene Emeralds will then hit the road for a five games series at Everett starting on Tuesday night before returning to PK Park next week for another five game series as they host Vancouver.
Eugene currently sits in last place of the Northwest League South with a 26-36 record and are currently eleven games out of first place. They are 9-21 on the road and could use some wins this week to boost their hopes at the playoffs.
