Oregon women’s basketball unveils 2014-2015 non-conference schedule

When the Ducks open the 2014-2015 season against Utah State at Matthew Knight Arena on Nov. 14, the Kelly Graves era at the University of Oregon will officially begin.

Oregon will play 11 games as part of its 2014-2015 non-conference schedule, the university announced Tuesday.

Headlining the teams traveling to Eugene this fall is North Carolina. The Tar Heels finished 27-10 last season and lost to Pac-12 power Stanford in the Elite Eight round of the NCAA tournament.

The Ducks will get their first taste of organized basketball this fall when Westmont comes to Eugene for an exhibition game. Oregon will play its first three official games at home against Utah State, North Carolina and Portland State.

Graves and Oregon will then travel to Las Vegas, Nevada to play in the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout. The Ducks will square off against Central Michigan and American in consecutive days in the desert.

Oregon then returns home for a five-game homestand. The Ducks will host Navy, Northern Arizona, Santa Clara, Fresno State and Seattle University.

Dec. 18′s matchup with the Broncos will be the first time former Oregon assistant coaches Bianca Ziemann and Shandrika Lee return to Eugene after taking jobs with Santa Clara this offseason. Santa Clara’s women’s basketball Director of Operations Cody Johnson will also return to Matthew Knight Arena after serving as the Director of Operations for Oregon women’s basketball.

Fresno State is coming off a 22-11 season in the Western Athletic Conference and earned a bid to the NCAA tournament last year, falling in the first round. In last year’s game against Seattle University, then-freshman Chrishae Rowe set the school record for most points scored in a game with 41.
