Fire Destroys Apartments and Business

creswell apartment fire picCRESWELL, Ore. — Eight people are without a home Saturday after an early morning fire in Creswell destroyed their apartment building and a business inside.

The property owners say the building is a complete loss.

Fire crews responded to the fire on the 200 block of South Mill Street just after 3:00 a.m. Saturday. Property owners and residents were picking up the pieces and salvaging what they could.

Investigators say there was heavy smoke and fire damage but no one was hurt. The owner of the Whistle Stop Barber Shop located in the same building says they’ve all received lots of help since the fire.

“Everybody’s safe. The Red Cross took care of everyone who needed to be taken care of and the Lucky Taco opened up for anyone who was displaced to have food this morning and everybody’s pulled together,” said Tina Smith, owner of the barber shop and mother of the property owners.

Smith says the barber shop already has a new location on Main Street opening next week.
