Cascade Kicks Banks Aside

Bjorklund 38 Yard FG As Time Expires Gets 10-7 Win

Turner – Cascade’s Lucas Bjorklund calmly connected on the game winning 38 yard field goal as time ran out to lift the Cougars past Banks, and into the OSAA 4A Quarterfinals Friday night.

“I felt like I could make it as we set up,” Bjorklund said. “We had (enough) time. I just knew I had to not let it get to my head. We drill on this every day.”

The game winning kick came after Cascade moved into position without the benefit of any time outs, which also meant the 4th down kick had to be set up with the clock running out.

But it was the defenses that were the story of the game, with Cascade’s coming up with the biggest stop, after what could have been a less stressful scoring opportunity slipped away on a fumble at the Banks 8 yard line.

“We hung in there, and stayed the course,” Cascade coach Steve Turner added. “I’m really proud of how they never lost focus. It took most of the game to find some things, and then it came down to executing with time running out.”
