HOODOO SKI AREASISTERS, Ore. — Snow in the mountains is big news for skiers.

Hoodoo Ski Area is finally open, and many are choosing to ring in the new year on the slopes.

Hundreds of people are already hitting the slopes, coming from near and far.

Ski area officials say they’re expecting nearly 2,000 visitors by the end of opening day.

Skiers and snowboarders say they have been waiting all season for Hoodoo to open because they like the friendly staff and shorter lines compared to other ski resorts.

The hills saw visitors from all over, from Portland and even Mississippi.

“We were kind of afraid there wasn’t going to be any snow until two days ago. It started snowing and then we got a lot of snow,” said Mississippi Sarah Deutsch.

“We were waiting for the last tally to decide whether we’d come up here and ski, but everybody’s great and we’re really excited,” said Portland resident Tom O’Keefe.

Officials say the morning kicked off with a bang, phones ringing and people ready to hit the hills. They say this is only the beginning of a long ski season ahead.

The season at Hoodoo runs until April.
