Tasting wine is always enjoyable but if you want to improve your palate, sometimes using tools can be helpful. A tool I love to use is “The Wine Aroma Wheel”. It can really help expand your wine terminology and give you the tools to more accurately describe wines.
The first step is to take a sip of whatever wine you prefer then look at the chart. Is it fruity? Is it earthy? Do you taste notes of wood or caramel? After you decide a characteristic, take a look at the next level to see what descriptor helps accurately represent the wine you are tasting. It makes the process a little more technical but once you get a solid foundation of the terminology, wine tasting can be a more involved experience. Keep your eyes peeled for this helpful tool, and you can be a wine tasting pro in no time. Cheers!
