Ems Make Wager to Take Polar Plunge

emsEUGENE, Ore. — The Ducks are getting some support from the Eugene Emeralds and the social media support for a frigid competition they’re participating in is heating up.

The Ducks are getting a huge showing of support from the Ems, who are confident the national title will belong to Oregon after Monday’s game.

The Ems have partnered with the Columbus Clippers, a Minor League Baseball team from Ohio.

If the Ducks win, Clippers staff will wear a mixture of Oregon Ducks and Ems gear, while taking the Polar Plunge at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium on February 21.

If the Buckeyes win, Ems staff will put on Clippers and Ohio State gear and jump into frigid waters on February 7 at Maurie Jacobs Park.

“Because there’s a team in Columbus, and we’re right here in Eugene on campus, we thought ‘Why not? Let’s do this.’ Columbus was totally in,” said Allan Benavides, the general manager of the Ems.

This is called the “Pass A Cold One” challenge and it’s all going to a good cause.

The wager will benefit each team’s local chapter of Special Olympics.

You can join the discussion on the Eugene Emerald’s Facebook page and website. The event will also be documented on those pages.
