Ohio City Renames Itself: Oregon, Ohio Buckeyes on the Bay, City of Duck Hunters

in Firehose/Headline Feed

There is a town in Ohio that decided to have some fun this week. They changed their name. Oregon, Ohio will have a new name now through the National Championship between the Oregon Ducks and the Ohio State Buckeyes on Monday.

A petition by two citizens late last week led to the opportunity to have the city’s name changed. Of course it had to go through local government and was one of the fastest passed statues in history most likely.

According to ESPN, the statue reads, “”Whereas, the City of Oregon officially adopted its name in 1838 as Oregon Township which happens to be 21 years before the State of Oregon received its statehood in 1859,” the proclamation said. “And The City of Oregon has been petitioned by residents of the city to make it clear that we are not associated with Oregon University Ducks Football.”

The town is more a supporter of Michigan and Toledo football according to the report.

The new town name will be, “Oregon, Ohio Buckeyes on the Bay, City of Duck Hunters”

There is no word if the City Post Office will still accept mail for Oregon, Ohio or if the new name will need to be used for the next week.

The Oregon Ducks and Ohio State Buckeyes will meet in the National Championship on Monday night at 5:30pm Pacific Time on ESPN. Oregon is favored in the game by over a touchdown.
