JUNCTION CITY, Ore.– Don’t let the gray cement exterior of the new psychiatric hospital in Junction City fool you. Construction of the state’s newest hospital is finally complete and the public will get a chance to take a look inside. The $84 million facility is 220,000 square feet and full of color.
The attention was focused on the interior of the hospital because that’s where 174 patients will call home. Some amenities include a hair salon, spiritual center, library and fitness room. The completion of the hospital is the closure of one chapter, and the beginning of another chapter for residents in Southern Oregon.
“There are many degrees of stigma outside of these walls. The community is able to come in and see that you’ve got a very active community. To replicate and simulate the community so that people are well prepared to leave as soon as they are ready is what we emphasize,” said Deputy Superintendent Bob Gebhardt.
The hospital opens in March and will staff 330 employees. Friday’s tour is from 1-6:30pm.
