I-5 Closed as Man Threatens to Jump from Overpass

CRESWELL, Ore. – The Lane County Sheriff Office shut down part of I-5 as they rescued a man who threatened to jump from the overpass. The southbound lanes around 6:15 p.m., minutes after the initial report came in.

Witnesses say the man was standing on the ledge, hanging on to the fence.

A nearby gas station attendant says the man had just used the bathroom at the gas station and appeared angry.

“Next thing you know, he’s looking for cigarettes all over the ground and then he goes up to the bridge, and then after he goes up to the bridge, he pretty much walks halfway after he looks around,” said Creswell resident Max Oldham.

Cottage Grove Fire eventually used a ladder truck to get the man down safely. They then took him to the hospital for mental evaluation.
