Sophomore guard Lexie Bando scored a career high 35 points and senior forward Jillian Alleyne recorded her 22nd consecutive double-double to lead the Oregon Ducks past the San Jose State Spartans 104-74 Monday evening at Matthew Knight Arena.
“Tonight I came out with confidence and just hit some threes,” Bando said. “During (warm-ups) tonight I could just tell that I was going to be on tonight.”
The lefty shooting guard hit 12 of her 17 attempts including six of her seven shots from behind the arc to lead the Ducks in scoring.
She had plenty of help from Alleyne. “I thought Jill was really impressive tonight,” said head coach Kelly Graves. “I thought this was the best game she’s played this year.”
Alleyne posted the 75th career double-double and snapped her own record for consecutive games reaching that milestone with 26 points and 20 rebounds against the over matched Spartans.
The Ducks shot the ball well, hitting 43 of 70 attempts for a 61.4% shooting mark from the floor. Oregon also enjoyed a 47-21 advantage on the boards and defensively held the Spartans to a 37.7% shooting percentage.
With the win, Oregon improves to 6-0 on the season and will next take the court on Saturday afternoon when they host Utah Valley State at Matthew Knight Arena beginning at 2:00 pm.
