Coos County, Ore. — An autopsy is complete on a man found dead in his van this weekend in Coos County and the district attorney says he died of gunshot wounds to the head and it’s clear he died at the hands of another person.
District Attorney Paul Frasier says the death is now classified as a homicide. He says they haven’t developed any persons of interest and are asking for the public’s help in finding the person responsible.
Police say Byron Clark Sherritt’s van was probably parked in the large parking lot near the south jetty of Bastendorf Beach since late Monday or early Tuesday and they believe he was killed shortly after he arrived. Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area Monday, February 22 to Saturday, February 27 to call the Coos County Sheriff’s Office. They would like to talk to witnesses, even if you don’t think you saw anything pertaining to the case. In the past, there have been cases where people didn’t think they knew anything important to a case, when they actually saw something very helpful.
Officials believe Sheritt lived out of his van and worked at Wal-Mart.
