Crews Investigate Suspicious Fire in Vacant Restaurant

SWEET HOME, Ore. — An investigation into a suspicious fire is underway in Sweet Home, after flames tore through the back of a vacant restaurant.
Fire crews said the building had been vacant for years, without power or fire alarms. Luckily someone passing by saw the flames and called 911.
The Sweet Home Fire District said the call came in at around 4:00 a.m. on Monday.
Crews said the fire started on the backside of the former T&M Pizza building on Main Street, and said the flames quickly moved inside. Battalion Chief Eli Harris said crews put out the fire before it spread to other rooms.
Battalion Chief Harris said at first look, the fire appeared to have started inside the air conditioning unit. He said they later discovered that the appliance wasn’t running.
Locals who shop in the area said there had been a person camping in the alley, near where the fire started.
The cause is under investigation. If you have any information, contact the Sweet Home Police Department.
