Crews Clean Up Giant Mess Left Behind at Lake Shasta

EUGENE, Ore. — A huge effort is being made to clean up a mess at Lake Shasta in California, allegedly left behind by students from the University of Oregon.

The giant mess left at Slaughterhouse Island over the weekend is now nearly gone, thanks to the Shasta-Trinity National Forest and volunteers.

Forest Service officials said the area has been a popular college party spot for decades and trash has been left behind before, but never this bad. They said litter covered about a half of a mile.

They said after two days of work, the island is almost back to normal.
