GLIDE, Ore. – A toddler has been hospitalized after being shot.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is currently searching for 23-year-old Bradley Karl Allen of Glide in connection with the shooting.

Officials said Brookelyn Weiker, 25, initially reported that her 18-month-old son was shot by an unknown man while they were hiking in the Idleyld Park area.

However, when deputies became suspicious of her statement she revealed to them that Allen is her boyfriend, and they were hiking together when Allen’s .22 caliber gun accidentally went off, striking her son.

Officials said she later told deputies she took Allen into town, and he reportedly ran away. Authorities consider him to be armed and dangerous and should not be contacted.

“Allen is a convicted felon, and that’s potentially one of the reasons he fled,” said Capt. Dwes Hutson of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. “He’s also wanted on a parole violation. So, we’re actively seeking him to arrest him.”

The boy was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg and was later airlifted to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. He is expected to be survive.

Authorities ask anyone with information regarding Allen’s whereabouts to call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
