EUGENE, Ore. – Two pedestrians were hit by vehicles in the same intersection on Wednesday in two different crashes.

The first happened just before 8 a.m. at Silver Lane and Grove Street, a four-way intersection near Yujin Gakuen Japanese Immersion School Elementary School.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office said a 12-year-old boy was crossing the street and was in the right of way when he was hit. The boy sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

During that investigation a second pedestrian was hit at the same intersection.

Police said a grandfather was walking his grandchildren to school. He suffered minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office said drivers need to pay attention, especially in school zones.

“The distracted driving issues we have a lot of things going on in our minds in our cars, our cell phones, our coffee in the morning getting ready in the car. No indication those play into this here but certainly they are big distractions,” said Sgt. Gordon Gill.
