EUGENE, Ore — Eugene Police responded to a report of a car submerged in a pond on Northwest Expressway.
Police shutdown Northwest Expressway Thursday morning from the Maxwell Connector to Cornwall so that emergency personnel could tow the vehicle out of Booth Kelly Pond. The initial call came in around 8:45 a.m. of a vehicle completely submerged.
“We got out here and we called see a car in the pond and fearing someone was inside. We had the fire department and search and rescue pulled the car out. Luckily we found nobody inside,” said Lt. Ron Tinseth with Eugene Police.
Police later tracked down the 22-year-old driver who reported slid on the roadway and as he was headed toward the pond. He told police he hit his driver’s side window button to open it, was able to get out the window and swim to shore.
