The Oregon Ducks shook off a sluggish first quarter and rolled to a 81-41 win over the University of Portland Pilots Friday evening at Matthew Knight Arena.
Led by freshman center Ruthy Hebard’s third double-double of the season, Oregon improved their season mark to 7-1 on the year. The Pilots slipped to 2-7.
After opening a 10-2 lead in the opening minutes, Oregon watched the Pilots put together a 12-2 run to take a 18-16 lead after the first quarter.
That would be the high point for Portland as the Ducks opened the second frame with 12-2 run of their own on the way to a 26 point outburst to take a 42-28 lead at the break.
Hebard’s 19 points and 11 rebounds led the Ducks in both categories. Four other players joined Hebard in scoring double digits; Sabrina Ionescu (14 pts), Mallory McGwire (11 pts), Lexi Bando and Oti Gildon (10 pts each).
The Ducks held Portland to 29.6% (16 for 54) shooting from the floor while connecting on 31 of their 60 attempts for a 51.7% mark. Oregon out rebounded the Pilots 44-27 and enjoyed a 40-18 advantage in points in the paint.
Oregon continue their non-conference portion of their schedule on the road, traveling to Clemson for a Monday night date with the Tigers then facing Mississippi State on Wednesday.
The Ducks will host Portland State at the Moda Center in Portland on Saturday December 17th at 5:00 pm then return to Matthew Knight Arena to wrap up the non-conference schedule, hosting Idaho on Tuesday December 20 for a noon tip off.
