On Sunday, April 8th at approximately 9:00AM, Oregon State Police responded to the report of a two-vehicle crash on Highway 26 approximately five miles east of Necanicum near milepost 13.  Initial investigation revealed a 2006 Audi was traveling westbound when it crossed into the eastbound lane and struck a 2009 Jeep Cherokee. This section of the highway consists of four-lanes.  It appears the Audi was in the westbound lanes when the driver lost control and crossed into the eastbound lanes and struck the Jeep in the right-hand eastbound lane.

The driver of the Audi was identified as 19 year old Jesus M RAMIREZ-CORTES, from Milwaukie.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver of the Jeep was identified as 63 year old Sylvia L KEARNS, from Vancouver.  Both drivers were utilizing their safety restraints and neither vehicle had any passengers.  Alcohol use is being considered as a contributing factor.  Highway 26 was completely shut down for approximately one hour then restricted for another three while the crash was being investigated.

The Oregon State Police was assisted by the Clatsop County Sheriff’s office, the Clatsop County District Attorney and Medical Examiner, Hamlet Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
