As Barbossa from Pirates of the Caribbean would say “the code is more what you’d call ‘guidelines’ than actual rules.” And that’s exactly how I like to look at most recipes.
One of my husband’s old cook friends, aptly nicknamed Scook (sea cook), gave me this great hippie dippie cook book. None of the recipes had amounts, it is all about using as much of an ingredient as you like. If you love vinegar, add more, if you don’t like blue cheese don’t use it. I see this recipe and other side dishes with that perspective in mind, add as much or as little of an ingredient as you like or none at all, recipe are indeed just guidelines.
