The 12th-ranked Oregon Ducks opened up Pac-12 play with a four game Civil War victory over the Oregon State Beavers 21-15, 23-25, 25-14, 25-15.
Lindsey Vander Weide, Ronika Stone, and Lauren Page led the hit parade for the Ducks with 14, 13, & 12 kills respectively as the Ducks out hit the Beavers .362 to .140 and with the exception of the second set, had Oregon State on their heels throughout the match.
“We got comfortable and we have a tendency to relax” offered Vander Weide on the Beavers second set win. “… we need to keep that same mindset (as in set number one) the whole time and not let up on teams.”
Oregon trailed most of the set but knotted up the score at 21 before surrendering four of the last six points, allowing Oregon State to pull even at a set apiece.
As they had in the first set, the Ducks pulled away from the Beavers in each of the last two sets, jumping out to a 15-10 lead in set three then an 18-11 advantage in set four to pick up their first conference win of the season.
With the win the Ducks improve to 8-3 overall and 1-0 in conference while the Beavers slipped to 10-3 on the year and 0-1 in Pac-12 play.
Oregon will next host the Washington State Cougars for a noon match on Sunday.
