Critics blast Oregon repeal of tsunami-zone building ban


Earthquake geologists and others are blasting Oregon’s recent repeal of a ban on new police stations, fire stations, schools and other “critical facilities” in tsunami inundation zones. Oregon State University professor Chris Goldfinger calls the repeal “foolhardy” and says it sacrifices public safety for development. The bill’s sponsors say the construction ban created hardships for coastal residents and businesses, affecting their property values and ability to get property insurance.
