Local Lunch Gals Solo: Laughing Planet Café

Laughing Planet Cafe’s approach to the food they serve is to get the food from farm to plate as quickly as possible. Whether it’s grass-fed beef from Carman Ranch in Wallowa, Oregon, or vegetables from farms on Sauvie Island along Oregon’s Columbia River, they support the local economy by sourcing foods from local farmers.

Selected to be one of the judges, Battledish is an international chef competition that takes place in cities around the world, and here in Eugene, six chefs from six different restaurants concocted some incredible dishes and drinks for participating food enthusiasts and our panel of six judges – all in hopes of being crowned the Battledish King.

Founded on the premise that ‘communities can be brought together through good food and good company,’ Dishcrawl is all about food, fun and exploration. With each Dishcrawl event, like-minded food enthusiasts have the opportunity to socialize while meeting the chefs, talking with the owners and exploring signature cuisine offered from four of Eugene’s restaurants.

Local Lunch Gals: SweetWaters on the River and the new Deschutes River Ale

The Gals didn’t go to Sweetwaters to eat, but it just so happened that way, and we were glad it did. Maria, Jennifer and I originally went to Sweetwaters for the Deschutes Brewery ‘Rockin’ on the River’ River Ale Release Party. With three VIP passes in hand, we were excited to try the just-released golden ale dubbed as “a session beer with craft soul.”

There’s been a recent wave of new businesses and restaurants opening in downtown Eugene, and these recent openings, along with the buzz of several future openings, have the Lunch Gals pretty excited.
