At first glance, Fortier looks more like a man who is a “starving artist” who loves nothing more than drinking whiskey, hanging with his fiancé and writing songs that entertain his ego. But then again, looks can be deceiving.
There are many other kinds of music that happen in Eugene besides the dance bands, or metal bands, or singer/songwriters… and there are many other places to see than Luckey’s, Diablos and Sam Bonds. So tonight I’ve decided to seek around this town and catch the OTHER stuff. If you check out the club listings inside, you’ll see there is a lot going on.

A new show pays tribute to a true legend in the entertainment industry.
Despite the fact that technically, this was a short work week, I am tired! Holy Cow! Looking at guitars, writing songs, drinking beer and taking my dogs to the river is TIRING! Thankfully my batteries are recharged and I’m ready to head out this fine evening and see some really good shows.
Fancy Bandits are a Eugene band who have been described by some as the “Tim Burton Circus” as their songs tend to sound eerie with a flair for the weird. The band is unique with the full goth-like keyboards, and sound much like a mix of the PJ Harvey, Pink Floyd and The Smiths.
The Dick Danger Band, a Eugene based band, have been performing most of the past five years in the Pacific Northwest. It’s obvious from watching them perform their influences have been the great Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochrane, Chuck Berry and John Fogarty.
Fortier has been compared to Neil Young to Tom Petty as well as Bruce Springsteen for his story telling abilities and vocal presentation.
On this trip through town, Red Fang were joined at Luckey’s by local indie rockers Testface and the insurgent punks The Dead Americans. Last Friday was a perfect night to see the show; the night was warm and Luckey’s was packed wall-to-wall with seriously excited metal-heads.
