DMV Closed Sept. 16 for Furlough Day

SALEM, Ore. — All Oregon DMV locations will be closed Friday, Sept. 16 due to an unpaid furlough day.

It’s the first of 10 such days for the state’s 2011-2013 budget period.

DMV says the days before and after a furlough day tend to be busier at its locations, so managers say to plan your trips accordingly.

Some of DMV’s services can be accessed online at www.OregonDMV.com including most passenger vehicle registration renewals, changes of address, and notice of vehicle sale.

The next scheduled furlough day for DMV is Friday, Nov. 25.

Corvallis Delivery Truck Robbery Suspect Caught

CORVALLIS, Ore. — Corvallis police arrested a man suspected of attempting to steal a delivery truck and breaking into a fly fishing shop.

An officer responded to BackCountry Fly Shop at 900 NW Kings Blvd. where he found someone had kicked in a glass door.

He then heard someone shouting “get out of my truck” from the 7-11 convenience store nearby.

When he ran over there, he found Dwayne Henderson, 29, kicking at a man from inside the cab of a delivery truck.

When Henderson tried to punch the truck driver, the officer subdued him with his Taser.

Henderson was arrested and lodged at the Benton County Jail.

He was charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor crimes.

Cooler weather will greet us for at least the next few days. Temperatures will be near normal for the whole week into next weekend.

_______________

It’s Monday and time for my new weekly weather quiz question. Here it is. How do hot temperatures effect a typical 727 airliner’s takeoff distance? Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized  weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

Advisories: NONE AT THIS TIME.

________________

We have been under a blocking high pressure ridge (“Arch” shape covering the Pacific Northwest) that kept us under Easterly hot airflow. The ridge will weaken and start moving Eastward away from us. That means more clouds and cooler temperatures that will be closer to normal. A frontal system will move in and that should break the back of this heat wave with more fronts to follow late in the week and over next weekend.
