Lane County Jail Deputies Make Grim Discovery in Cell

EUGENE– A Lane County Sheriff’s Deputy doing a routine cell check at the Lane County Jail made a grisly discovery around 8:15 pm last night. After opening the cell to check on a pregnant inmate, the deputy found the inmate had delivered a child, which was pronounced dead on the scene.    The 27-year-old Springfield woman claimes the child was stillborn.

Officers say the case is currently under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, district attorney, and medical examiner.
