EUGENE, Ore. — The cost of a vacation can add up rather quickly, especially when you factor in the cost of renting a car and the gas to fill it up.
But what if you could vacation somewhere without a car?
One online writer recently wrote about six U.S. cities she says are surprisingly great car-free getaways.
One of the cities that offManhattan.com cofounder Lauren Matison listed was Eugene.
She says the city has many resources for traveling by bike.
Matison mentions the many miles of Eugene’s off-street paths, on-street bike lanes, pedestrian-friendly bridges, buses with bike racks and bike path along the Willamette River.
She also selected Eugene because of the amount of hotels that offer transportation to and from the airport, pedi-cab services, and how the Amtrak Cascades train lets passengers bring their bike aboard for a small fee.
