Wine Down Eugene

Wine Down Eugene for July 25-31

My new office

The weather the past few days has been incredible. Monday the sky was a brilliant cerulean blue and the wind was blowing just enough to make being outdoors 100 percent pleasant. Tuesday had a cloudy, slightly cool start and then around 1 pm, just like that, the clouds were gone and the sun was beaming. Today was absolutely beautiful – blue skies and perfect summer temperatures, a day I spent entirely outside. In fact, I love being outdoors this time of year so much that I’ve moved my office to my back patio. I can get my work done while watching my kids play in the sprinklers, the summer life is, indeed, good.

LaVelle Tasting Room at the 5th Patio

I’m hoping this beautiful weather sticks around well into Fall. There are a plethora of fantastic winery events coming up over the next several months, and I’m hoping the skies will be blue and temperatures will be warm. There’s just something about sipping a summery chilled Willamette Valley Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc while looking out over the vineyards and/or valley. And although our urban wineries, like Territorial Vineyards and Wine Company and LaVelle’s Tasting Room at the 5th, don’t have valley or vineyard views, they do offer outdoor seating where people watching can be a great form of entertainment while enjoying a glass of chilled white wine.

I’m really looking forward to this weekend, which is filled with outdoor events from Friday through Sunday, so I hope this gorgeous weather pattern continues on its path. On Friday, my husband and I, along with our two boys, are going to pack up some blankets and chairs and head over to Crescent Village’s Movies Under The Stars for the movie, “Up.”

On Saturday, we’re going to the lake for a picnic during the day, and then we’ve got the Heidi Tunnell Catering Company Barn Dinner on Saturday night featuring fresh-caught Albacore Tuna paired with the awesome wines of Domaine Meriwether.

On Sunday evening, we’ll be judging beer and food pairings at Ninkasi Brewery for their Carts and a Cold One Cook Off. Six local food carts will each create a dish, highlighting locally grown produce which will be paired with one of Ninkasi’s beers. I am really looking forward to this event, I love pairing beer with food – it’s almost as fun as pairing wine with food.

I hope I’ll be seeing some friendly and familiar faces while I’m out and about taking advantage of this glorious weather. Happy summer.
