Oregon State Beavers safety Steven Christian isn’t just a standout on the football field, he’s also a standout in the community. Christian has been nominated for the 2013 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, an honor that reflects his outstanding efforts.

Christian is one of 151 nominees for the award. A final list of 22 award recipients – comprised of 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III, and the NAIA – will be unveiled sometime in September.

Christian’s work in the community:

  • Developing curriculum that engages student athletes and encourages their professional development through Oregon State University Adventure Leadership Institute.
  • Tutoring math at Oregon State.
  • Volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club of Corvallis.

“Through their commitment to service and helping others, this impressive group of student-athletes has shown that ‘good works’ extend beyond the football field,” said Cynthia Whitfield, field senior vice president of Allstate’s Southern region and a voting member of the 2013 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. “The positive impact these young athletes have on their communities is an inspiration to us all and another reason to celebrate the good happening in our communities.”
